Explore the endless creative possibilities of clay in Teen Ceramics, a welcoming studio class designed for students of all experience levels. Whether you're touching clay for the very first time or looking to strengthen your technical skills, develop your artistic voice, or build work for a college portfolio, this class provides individualized instruction and creative support to help you reach your goals.

Over ten weeks, students will develop skills in both wheel throwing and handbuilding while exploring functional pottery, sculpture, surface decoration, glazing, and the ceramic firing process. Through demonstrations, guided projects, and independent exploration, participants will learn essential ceramic techniques while having the freedom to experiment with their own creative ideas and interests.

Taught by Appel Farm Teaching Artist, ceramicist, and art educator Shannon Henry, the class balances technical instruction with creative exploration in a supportive studio environment. Instruction is tailored to each student's experience level, allowing beginners to build confidence with foundational skills while more experienced students refine their craftsmanship, explore advanced techniques, and create portfolio-quality work. Students interested in pursuing ceramics beyond high school will also have opportunities to receive individualized feedback as they develop work that showcases their artistic growth.

Throughout the session, students will experience the complete ceramic process—from forming and sculpting clay to glazing and firing finished pieces. Participants will keep all completed work created during the course.
